A study on the characteristics of playfulness according to young children¡¯s gender and age: based on test of plsyfulness(ToP)

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of playfulness of age, gender: source of motivation, perception of control, suspension of reality, framing. The subjects were 60 children{30 boys(3-4age:10, 5-6age:10, 7-8age:10 and 30girls(3-4age:10, 5-6age:10, 7-8age:10)}. Test of Playfulness (version 4.0) was the measurement inventory in this study, which was developed by Bundy (2003) in order to measure the playfulness of both children with disabilities and without disabilities. The ToP reflects four elements of play: the source of motivation, the perception of control, the suspension of reality and the framing. The ToP is an observational assessment administered during free play in familiar environments with familiar peers. ToP data were analyzed using Winstep, a computer program for Rasch analysis. The results of this study; the source of motivation of girls had more intrinsic motivation than boys. There were no difference in the source of motivation by age. There were no difference in the perception of control(self)by gender, age. The perception of control(shared) of girls had more internal control than boys. There were no difference in the perception of control(shared) by age. The suspension of reality of boys had more free than girls. The suspension of reality of the older children appeared free. The framing of boys had more free than girls. The suspension of reality of the older children appeared free. The framing of boys had more free than girls. and The framing of the older children appeared free.
